Guide To Reiki

What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of Japanese Spiritual healing. The word 'Reiki' means universal life energy - Rei (universal) and Ki (life energy). It was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan at the beginning of the 20th century. It aims to promote health, maintain well-being and to help people attain a higher consciousness. Reiki is given by the laying of the therapists hands onto the recipient, to channel the Reiki energy.

Who Can Reiki Help?

It is said that Reiki can help almost all conditions. It works 'for the higher good' - Thus if it does not offer a cure, it is still active on a higher level. It's main uses are for Stress related conditions, emotional distress, pain relief and is said to be particularly useful to those who have a terminal condition. It is said that caution needs to be taken with insulin dependent diabetics and those carrying pacemakers due to energy releases being at different rates. Consult an experienced therapist for more details on this point.

What Does Reiki Involve?

The therapist places his/her hand's in 12 preset positions. This is to allow the energy to flow through from the therapist to the recipient. The recipient remains fully clothed throughout. Eac session will last about an hour and these sessions can be repeated weekly. After a session of Reiki, the recipient may feel energised of invogorated, some may feel deeply relaxed. There may be a Healing Crisis, where the body rids itself of toxins and the recipient may feel tired or nauseous. This will pass however.
