What Is Massage?

Massage is a system of manipulation of the soft tissues of the body with the aim of achieving both physical and mental relaxation. Virtually all cultures have developed some form of massage and it is probably the oldest therapy known to man. It is thought to promote healing by improving the circulation of blood and stimulating the lymphatic system.

 Who Can Massage Help?

Aches, Pains and Musculo-Skeletal problems all benefit. It can also used to improve Sleep, promote Relaxation and help relieve Anxiety and Depression. Athletes and Dancers can benefit greatly as Massage helps milk the muscles of lactic acid and tones the muscles. Circulation is helped and the general tensions and aches of life are soothed.

 What Does Massage Involve?

A session normally lasts 30 minutes to 1 hour, after a history has been taken. It involves lying on a couch, undressed to the underwear. The practitioner will use the 4 main forms of massage; Effleurage, Percussion, Petrissage and Friction. It may involve the application of oils or be combined with other therapies.
