What Is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is the use of water, in various forms, to cure and alleviate various symptoms. At the heart of Hydrotherapy, is the belief that water is the essence of life – It forms the major part of the body. Indeed, we can only live a few days without water.

Who Can Hydrotherapy Help?

People with Back pain, joint problems, muscle injuries, rheumatism and many more symptoms are said to benefit from Hydrotherapy. It is generally safe for most people , although there are a few contra-indications. If you have an allergy to Iodine, you should avoid treatment that involves seaweed and if you have high blood pressure or heart disease you should consult your GP first.

 What Does Hydrotherapy Involve?

There are many different forms of the treatment available, depending on your symptoms. These include: Physiotherapy, whilst immersed in warm water. Compresses, soaked in hot or cold water for joint problems. Steam baths and steam cabinets, where the profuse sweating helps to rid the body of toxins and impurities. Sitz Baths, for conditions such as Cystitis, Constipation, Piles and Reproductive organ problems – these consist of 2 baths, one hot + one cold, that are used in alternation. Water sprays, where a jet of hot, cold or alternating water is sprayed on all or part of the body.
