Guide To Gestalt Therapy
What Is Gestalt Therapy?
Gestalt Therapy is a type of psychotherapy and comes from the German word meaning "Organised Whole". This refers to the unity of the mind, body and spirit of a person – It is based on the view that a persons ideas, feelings and actions ar related aspects of their whole personality. When a situation is left incomplete at any stage of a persons life, the "gestalt" is said to be interrupted and the energy of thoughts and emotions becomes blocked or suppressed.
Who Can Gestalt Therapy Help?
People who suffer from Anxiety and Tension are said to benefit. It can also help those who have difficulties with forming close relationships or getting on with others.
What Does Gestalt Therapy Involve?
A gestalt therapist will help a person to develop self awareness and break their pattern of non expression. This may be done through a variety of different methods, such as Counselling, Art Therapy, Movement or tailored excercises. The therapy aims to teach the individual to be aware of thoughts, feelings, actions and gestures that are aroused by what is happening around themselves and then to be able to act on these stimuli, to be able to express themselves.
