Guide To Craniosacral Therapy
What Is Craniosacral Therapy?
Cranio-sacral therapy is the osteopathic treatment of the head, in which osteopathic techniques are used to deal with the bones and the joints of the head. This is a diagnostic and healing therapy based on the application of corrective pressures to the cranium and spine. It is a very gentle and non invasive therapy. The gentle pressure applied around the skull plates encourages the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid and deeper energies. The therapy works by allowing the body to heal itself, by bathing tissues and allowing blood and fluids to flow more effectively and efficiently. It is thought that any problem due to an injury to the head may be helped even if the injury was many years ago.
Who Can Craniosacral Therapy Help?
It can be used to treat most conditions that involve the head, skull and upper neck. Practitioners have claimed success in the treatment of Migrane, Whiplash, Headaches, Toothache, Tinnitus and many more. The treatment is suitable for all age ranges, from babies to the Elderly. What Does Craniosacral Therapy involve?
A history of your symptoms will be taken. An examination is then performed. The bottom of your spine (sacrum) and skull are gently felt to detect any malalignment and interruption of the flow of fluid surrouding the spine and brain (Cerebro-Spinal fluid). Gentle manipulation and massage will then be performed. The treatment is very gentle, consisting of moulding, tapping, and the holding of bones to gently coax them back into the right place. In some cases the practitioner may manipulate the jaw bones from the inside of the mouth.
