Guide To Chiropractic
What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the relief of pain by joint, muscle and particularly spine manipulation. In many ways the therapy is similar to Osteopathy but the main difference is that Chiropractors rely more on X-Rays and 'conventional' methods than Osteopaths.
Who Can Chiropractic Help?
Any age group can receive Chiropractic treatment, from babies to the elderly. Most commonly, patients are suffering from Back pain, Sciatica, Headaches, Whiplash and Headaches. Sporting injuries are also a prime candidate for Chiropractic treatment.
What Does Chiropractic Involve?
At the first session, the practitioner will take a case history from the client and then proceed with an examination. An X-Ray will probably be taken, to determine the condition of the spine or joint(s) in question. At the second session, the practitioner would reveal the diagnosis and then proceed with the treatment. The client typically is asked to undress to their underwear and then stand, sit or lie on a special couch. The Chiropractor will then manipulate the spine or joint(s) with a series of special movents. The 'adjustment(s)' as they are known, are not painful (although a crunch or click may be heard!) and afterwards the client is re-examined. Depending on the client, this may be all that is needed, or 1 or more repeat treatments may be required. In general, the more long standing the condition, the more treatments reqiured.
