What Is Alexander Technique?
The Alexander technique is concerned with improving health through better posture. It is said to be entirely safe, to promote a harmonious state of Body and Mind and help a number of complaints from Anxiety to Ulcers. It was developed by an Australian actor, Frederick Alexander. After losing his voice on stage one night, he found he could cure the condition by improving his posture. By constantly observing and correcting himself in the mirror, he developed the method. In 1904, he came to London and found himself in high demand from the acting profession. He later moved to America and the technique rapidly gained international recognition.

What Does Alexander Technique Involve?
The teacher will normally begin by observing how you use your body. Most of the time, people do not adopt the right posture and this may lead to aches and pains. The practioner will show you how to change these harmful postures and how to relearn to use your muscles with the minimum effort, with the maximum effiency. He/She may gently manipulate your body into a more natural position with gentle pushing or stretching techniques. There is no use of force and no clicking or crunching of joints, just a subtle adjustment as the pupil is re-educated to walk, sit, stand and move in the correct manner.
